What the Client Wanted

Our client is a European company dedicated in providing web hosting service for its users. The client wanted to migrate all the sites from the original hosting to a new one using PLESK Control Panel, then configure DNS settings to replace the original one completely by the new one and migrate the database, sites and e-mails to make them synchronous with the original one.

What our client concerned was shortening the migration time and guaranteeing the completeness of those data. Since each of its users is an independent site administrator who is able to log on the server with B/S pattern, and then conducts related disposition and management, the synchronization of the database, sites and e-mails after migrating thus became the key issue during the process.

Our Solutions

• Transferred all the original sites to the new server utilizing Backup and Restore Tools on PLESK Control Panel;
• Backed up and restored the original database and modify "Connection String" of Webconfig document to enable the database being called by those dynamic sites successfully when necessary;
• Created a number of new sites, imported the files from FTP and tested through the browser whether the new sites are accessible; 
• Configured site alias with PLESK and IIS; added redirect function to the sites;
• Installed MailEnable in the corresponding directory to make it integrated with PLESK;
• Migrated e-mails at original server to the new one, configured some rules such as mail forwarding and discarding and synchronized e-mails at the two servers right after the successful running of the new server;
• Configured SMTP and POP3; configured DNS by adding some related records to make the sites, FTP, e-mails accessible;
• Confirmed the 2nd  disk a complete hardware mirror, in case that the first disk goes bad, the second  one is able to replace it as a master disk when hot swap needed.
